Christian Education & Faith Formation

Church School

From nursery care to Church School classes for pre-K through 8th grade, families and children of all ages join us in worship every Sunday from September to mid-June.

Church School class lessons are taught in a rotating basis emphasizing a theme across several Sundays and including hands on activities to reinforce the lessons.

Our Church School class as well as our youth groups (which meet once a month) participate in outreach activities throughout the year, such as making cards and decorating cookies for shut-ins; collecting clothing and school supplies for the homeless, making soup for members of our congregation and more.

Christmas Pageant

The Annual Christmas Pageant is a highlight for the congregation and all its participants.  The telling of the story of Jesus’ birth takes all of December to learn and prepare. See our Calendar for date and time of the Pageant.

Church School Sunday

Church School Sunday is a Sunday worship let completely by youth participants.

Ninth graders are invited to join Pilgrim as members through our Confirmation program that beings in late fall and culminates in the spring with a Confirmation service.

Adult Faith Formation

Adult programs are proposed and led by lay members and approved by the Board of Deacons. Some popular adult discussion series have included:

  • Four 8-week sessions discussing the 4-volume series Listening for God: Contemporary Fiction and the Life of Faith by Paula Carlson & Peter Hawkins, eds.
  • A five-week discussion series on short stories from A Good Man is Hard to Find and other stories by Flannery O’Connor.
  • A monthly drop-in book group focusing on fiction that reflects the challenges of immigrants or non-Christians assimilating into a largely Christian-American culture. Featured are works by such writers as Philip Roth, Jhumpa Lahiri, and Ha Jin.
  • A five-week discussion series on the text Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life by Richard Rohr
  • A four-week discussion series on World Religion in America
