05 Dec Faith & Fiction December Meeting
Tuesday · December 19th · 7pm · Parlor
We continue our discussion of works of fiction that reflect the challenges of immigrants or non-Christians assimilating into a largely Christian American culture. December’s meeting will focus on award-winning author Elizabeth Strout’s novel The Burgess Boys about a depressed former mill town in Maine with a substantial influx of Somali refugees. The plot is set in motion when a teenage boy throws a frozen pig’s head through the door of a local Somali mosque during Ramadan.
A limited number of books will be on reserve at Westwinds for our group. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information if you are interested in attending this December meeting. Prior participation is not required. All are welcome.
